Water That Changes Everything

Nation Changers  ·  Ethembeni  ·  August 2026

At Ethembeni, water is no longer something to worry about. After months of work on the ground, the new water reservoir and back-up system are complete — and we'd love you to come and celebrate it with us.

For a school, water isn't a background detail. It's clean hands before lunch. It's a working kitchen, a working bathroom, a classroom that doesn't have to send children home when the taps run dry. When water is unreliable, everything else wobbles with it. That's the problem this project set out to solve — and it's the reason there's so much to celebrate.

What we built

The Ethembeni Water Reservoir gives the school a proper store of water to draw on every single day. Alongside it, a back-up water system means that when the mains supply is interrupted — as it so often is — the water keeps flowing. No emergency. No lost school days. Just quiet, dependable water, there when it's needed.

This is what community mobilisation looks like in practice. Not a cheque and a photo, but infrastructure that stays behind and keeps working long after the celebration is over. It's the kind of tangible, locally visible impact that Nation Changers was built for.

The build, step by step

It didn't happen overnight. From breaking ground to the final connection, here's a look at the work that went into securing water for Ethembeni.

Every stage — from groundwork to the completed back-up system — powered by people who showed up.

"We're not just handing over a tank. We're handing over reliable days — for the kids, the teachers, and everyone who keeps Ethembeni running."

Why it matters

Every one of our programmes — the food programme, education support, Neema reading, the sewing skills, The Clothing Box — depends on the same thing: showing up where the need is real and doing something about it. The reservoir is that same spirit, set in concrete and steel. It's proof of what happens when a community decides a problem is worth solving together.

And the best part? You helped make it possible. Whether you volunteered, gave, prayed, or simply spread the word, this water flows because people chose to be part of the change.

Nation Changers mobilises volunteers, resources, and skills across the Upper Highway to tackle unemployment, hunger, and poor education — one act of service at a time. Find out more at nationchangers.co.za.
